My Lockdown Silver Linings

Despite the s**t show that has been 2020, there were some good things to come out of lockdown.

Earlier on in the year (only about two weeks before we actually went into lockdown!), I wrote, what now seems a laughable blog post, all about how amazing 2020 was going to be…

The start of a new decade. The year Mark and I were meant to get married. Finally, go on the awesome trip we’ve been planning practically the whole time we’ve been together. And just generally boss life!

Roll on four months and life is looking pretty different. I honestly wouldn’t have imagined 2020 would be the year I tried to find cute face masks. Or that after being fully locked down for three months, a trip to a different part of Fife would be so exciting! But hey, that’s the 2020 we’ve ended up with!

I like to be optimistic and see some good in everything. So here’s my silver linings from the weird year so far.

When lockdown got announced, I felt so glad that I was going to be stuck inside with someone I actually liked! But regardless of how much you like each other, being with the same person (and only that person) day-in and day-out for any length of time can be challenging. Thankfully, we still want to marry each other, so I think we passed lockdown with flying colours!

Having nowhere to go has meant I’ve had more time to spend talking with people. My friends and I embraced video calls right at the start. I’ve spoken to my best friend on FaceTime almost every week during lockdown. And we had a Zoom celebration when another friend finished up at work. Before this, if you’d asked me to video call anyone I wouldn’t have been up for it. Now it seems like second nature.

Things have really picked up for my business. I started working on a project at the end of March and have picked other new clients since then. I was super stressed when this all kicked off. Especially because I was only in my first year of business and couldn’t get any of the government grants. But now I feel like I could really make this self-employment thing work!

The biggest silver lining though is that so far we’ve managed to stay healthy. Which let’s be honest is the most important thing during a pandemic!

Oh, and we’ve moved our wedding to 2021. So (fingers crossed) third time lucky…!

What are your lockdown silver linings?

  • It’s so nice to read positive content like this! A silver lining for me was I also got to talk to people more and finally having a bit more routine in my life because as a flight attendant I don’t usually have that! 🙂

    • Thank you! 😃
I can imagine a job like that doesn’t allow for much routine! I think a lot of people will have appreciated the slower pace of life that lockdown gave us.
